Hi everyone, please help regarding question # 8 in IMM 5540 (Sponsorship questionnaire) which asks:

8.) Have you resided in countries other than in Canada
No
Yes - Give the name of the countries where you resided, your complete address(es) and telephone numbers in these countries, as well as period of residence at each address

My answer is YES because I've resided in my home country (Philippines)

1st question: Do I have to list all the addresses in the Philippines I lived in, including the boarding houses and dormitories I temporarily stayed in because of my work in a city hours away from my family house? (I only stayed during weekdays) Aside from my real home address, I stayed in 3 different boarding houses/ dorms starting from when I took review classes for the board exam (1 year), then a different one for my first job(1 year), a different one for my second job(3 months), then again a different one for my third job (3 years).

2nd question: A few years ago when my family applied for PR with me as a dependent, i really can't remember exactly, but I think we also had to list down the addresses we have resided in outside of Canada. and I just put my home address down (which I considered my residence , not the boarding houses I was temporarily living in). Now I am thinking to do this also now for the sponsorship questionnaire, but I fear that CIC might see it as an issue, as to where I lived during the times I was away from my hometown (when i took the review, and had my jobs) since they could see my work addresses clearly in question # 7 of the same form , which were not in the same city as my "home" address.

3rd question: If I do list all the addresses including my boarding houses and dormitories, wouldn't CIC compare this with our PR application forms back then with my family, see that back then I listed only one address and see this as a discrepancy now? Will this affect my sponsorship application now for my husband?

For complicated situations like this, it is best to write a letter of explanation and attach it to the forms. I would include your temporary addresses, and explain that while your permanent address was the same during these years, during the week you stayed in a dorm (or whatever), and give the address and phone number. If you don't include the temporary residences, the visa officer will probably ask about it, since your residence and work addresses will be in different cities. With the letter of explanation, the visa officer should not consider that your previous application was a misrepresentation.

basically you need to list all addresses where you've lived. however, this becomes tricky if you've lived at different addresses due to work or study. let's assume you've lived in a dormitory during the week and have returned to your parents home every weekend. your home address or 'primary' address would be - based on my opinion - your parents address also assuming that all correspondence gets here and this is your official address. you still would provide additional information about your secondary home (dorm) on a separate sheet of paper for completeness' sake.

and yes, make sure that all information is in line with any previous applications and information you provided to CIC.

thank you for your replies. actually that what i was concerned about, the consistency with our PR application where i just included my home address. thats where i get all my mail, billings, etc, i never use my dorm adresses coz i dont expect to live there for long and ddnt wanna keep updating my mailing addresses. but like was mentioned, i think im just going to include the dorm adresses for compelteness sake and put a note that these were all "transitory" adresses and not my permanent home address. hopefully they wld undrstand . whats funny is i dont even rmmber the exact adresses of those boarding houses / dorms i lived in, and no phone numbers coz these are just "informal" settings / low budget living arrangements coz i was still starting out on my career.

I'd do it on a separate piece of paper. in other words: you list your main addresses on the form and the secondary ones on the separate sheet of paper to avoid overlaps. good luck!

thank you, what i did is put the main address on the form then indicated "please see separate sheet of paper for more info". then put the temporary addresses on the separate sheet and provided an explanation Smiley
