I just received IELTS score that I have taken first time without much preperation... Here is the score that got...
L = 6.5, R = 7.0, W = 7.5, S = 7.5, Overall Band = 7.0
As per this and new rules I am eligible to get 14 points...
Do I have any problem with Listening Score being 6.5?
Should I submit this score or take another test??? Do they need minimum 7.0 in all L, R, W, S
Please advise...

As long as the 14 points will do for you, I see no reason to re-sit the test. There is no minimum proficiency level.

I was mistaken that if there is any downside of the low Listening... since I had a problem with Listening and I did filed a complain to the center...
Thanks,

Fersal; The two tests (Toefl and IELTS) may not be easily compared. But I would say if you can get a good score on the Toefl, there is no resaon why you should not do so on IELTS provided that you are fully familiar whith the test format and sections. The new generation Toefl (IBT) looks more like the IELTS than the previous versions (PBT or CBT). The main difference could be that in IELTS listening, a wide range of standard English accents are used whereas in Toefl it is all American English. So if you got problems with like Australian or British accents, you may need a little more practice.

No matter at all. Five is common for many Chinese applicants. In fact, my writing score is 5.5.

I took IELTS on 28.09.2008. I will probably send my application this summer. By which system do you think my score will be evaluated, the old or the new one? How many points do you think I will be given for the Language ability criteria?
My results are as follows:
L-7; W-6; R-7; S-8; Overall: 7
Thank you in advance for your help.

So it will be evaluated by the new system, despite the fact it's been taken Sept. last year, right?

It cannot be older than one year when you apply. Just in case.

Hi WPC1, can u explain that a bit further please. I mean to say "It cannot be older than one year when you apply". Is this applicable to people who applied before the new rules i.e those with the simplified FSW also.

Hi all, 14 is gud for IELTS . maximum you can get is 16 so do not worry as long as it help you to qualify. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG72.asp#minimumI am not sure what you all mean by under new rules how IELTS scoring will be done because there is no difference in new and old rules for assessing language profficiency. It is still the same b/w 7-9: 4 b/w 5-6.9: 2 b/w 4-4.9 : 1 ( maximum of two) less than 4: 0
