can someone tell me what the test entails and if there are practise papers available. I want to be prepared for the test as it is very expensive and i dont want to fail it.

Try going to IELTS official website. Google is your friend, there are tons of Mock tests out there.

You can get lot of information of IELTS from internet. The details are mentioned below but if you really want to do IELTS course then British Council is the best place to practice IELTS.

General English Grammar and Vocabulary Practice
Basic sentence structure. Find out about SIMPLE, COMPOUND and COMPLEX sentences. Do the quiz.
