Hello everyone,

I'm a young woman who is working on immigrating to Canada, hopefully.
I hold British qualifications, the highest one being a Master of Arts degree with a First Class Honours.
I have been working for three years, and been able so far to accumulate the necessary funds/experience for the immigration process.
I have started the whole application-fillin process, but have come across some difficulties which necessitate your help Smiley

To cut to the chaste, I have posted my questions below Smiley I'd appreciate any explanation/confirmation from you Smiley

1- From what I've read on the immigration website, I should first mention the name of my designated office (different from the nearby one for visa services), then mail the whole package to the main immigration HQ in Nova Skotia. Is this what you guys did? Who contacts you afterwards for the rest of the process? the HQ or the designated office? - This question may have been asked before but I really need some explanation, coz its the first step and I don't wanna make any mistake-

2- should I leave the UCI (IMM0008) case blank since it's my first application ever? I guess I should :p but I need confirmation!

3- I haven't applied to Québec, and thus have no CSQ number.  Under the personal details, section 7/C the question asks when I did apply for it, even though I hadn't received it. The expected answer is a date, but since I haven't applied, I chose to leave it blank. Is this OK?

4- I'm quite confused about the national identity number. I'm not sure which document they are talking about, because each country has a different set of national IDs!! What did you guys do? Should I just ignore it!! my ID card has expired, and I'm just using my Driving License card which in my country (next to passports and election cards) can be used as an ID too!! I'm so confused!!

5- Languages: Can I do testing for one language only, even though being proficient in another? Say that my selected language is English which requires a General IELTS exam, will I still need to do the TEF?

6- Ok, I have an MA degree and I'm now lecturing at uni-level. What should I use for my Canadian equivalent title on the application form, since I can't use the term lecturer (needs Phd)? Should I simply use college instructor and select the NOC Code 4131 eventhough I've been teaching at uni-level for three years now!! Are community college instructors MA holders in Canada?

7- And, speaking of degree, do you think that My British qualifications will be accepted? I have a three-year BA (Hons) in Translation/Interpreting, an MA degree in Translation, and a language diploma (EAP). Are British degrees recognised in Canada? Will I need to go through equivalency?

8-  Work experience: Should I add full time, part time although there is no specific place for it on the application form!!! and can I mention my work experience as a student (not related o my studies) or is it pointless!!!

9- Can I type N/A whereas necessary; no multiple choice just typing space.

That's all for now Smiley I'm still t the early stage of my application process. I hope my questions aren't stupid  Grin

Thank you all  Kiss

Here's your first hurdle...

If you're interested in applying through the federal skilled worker program, then your occupation must appear on the following list:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/complete-applications.asp

Unfortunately there are no teaching occupations on this list at this time.

However you can still qualify by first obtaining a job offer in Canada (AEO - approved employment offer).

And remember, obtaining lecturership job in Canada with foreign credentials  is a daydream. Many came in here with 4131 category (including myself) and landed in some menial jobs to survive.

Great point. I didn't want to sound too negative in my original post. But I agree it's extremely difficult.

Yes it is extremely difficult. No matter you hold Masters degree or PhD from U.K.
