I have no idea about the job scenario for engineers but it's always a good idea to try to set up some interviews before you go on your trip.
Here are some job search engines:
http://www.canadavisa.com/career_zone/canadian-immigration-job-search.htm http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/http://www.eluta.ca/http://www.monster.ca/http://www.workopolis.com/I met an engineer from Iran at my citizenship ceremony. He told me that he landed in Toronto, probably in 2004 so already a while ago. He went there because he had family there but he couldn't get a job. He said he spent 6 months doing jobs like security guard and taking courses on how to make his CV more Canadian at newcomers centres (which he by the way said was not very helpful, he said they mostly seem to want your SIN so they can charge the government for helping you but they will only tell you common knowledge things, no real tips). Anyway, he was getting so frustrated that he was getting ready to move back to Iran and ask for his old job back when he got a lead about a job in Alberta so he got that job, moved and was very happy with the way things had turned out for him.
