Hi All,

I am expecting to get my PR in around 1 month time...I am planning to go to Canada in May'11. I am the principal applicant and I would go with my wife and kid. My query to all are following:

(1) What are the conditions one need to fulfills to sponsor parents?
(2) My mother (around 60 years of age) is a diabetic patient for the last 15 years....her eye sight is quite weak and she has problem in her legs...If I fulfills the conditions as required in point (1), would this be a hindrance in her sponsorship?

Please advise.

Regards,
Panks

1) Money, money, money.  Your income must be sufficient to support your own family (spouse, kids) as well as your parents.  If your spouse co-sign, you can count the spouses income as well.  You can find it here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5196E10.asp in Table 3 for LICO how much you have to make.

2) If your mother is deemed to cause excessive demand on Canada's health care system, she would be refused but it doesn't sound like she has anything that would cause expensive surgeries etc.

Sponsoring parents can take some time, cause for that one need to show sufficient income in Canada. Sufficient income is considered on the number of members of family and number of people to be sponsored.  It can take 4-5 years. Canada is in no hurry to bring parents of PR here.
At this stage after you land in Canada , she can apply visitor visa ( see link posted by qorax)  and then come in Canada to meet and stay with you. Once you have sufficient  income ( about $4000 pm) you can start sponsorship process. For the success of that application,I have little doubt in my mind regarding the health condition you have mentioned here, cause parents also have to pass through medicals.
