Dear All,

I am desperately looking for some help. I landed in Canada in July this year and gave my relatives home address for PR Card. After landing I stayed in Canada for a week and came back to US. Now, it is more than 45 days and I haven't received my PR Card yet. I wanted to call and find out the status of my PR Card. I have the number (1 888 242 2100) but it is only accessible only from with in Canada. I tried several ways to get to this toll free number but in vain. I purchased a calling card online for use within Canada and dialed the access number from US and then tried to call the above toll free number and it didn't work. Called from my land-line, cellphone, VOIP phone from US and none worked.  If you know any other method to reach this toll free number please share the information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You can't call it from outside Canada.  You could ask a relative in Canada who has 3-way calling and knows how to use it to set you up by calling the CIC number himself and then add you to the call as the 3rd party.

a_baig - unfortunately it didn't work for me. I tried the number directly (+1 888 242 2100) but i got a message stating that - " from the area you are calling you cannot reach this number".

Leon - My relative thinks it is illegal to make a 3 way calling. I am looking for help from other people. Hoping that I will get some help to make a 3 way call.

Thanks all for your suggestions.

Other people have used 3 way calling to get in touch with immigration from outside Canada.  That is why I knew about it, because a member on this board said they had done it.  As far as I know, it's not illegal but I am sure there is a reason why the CIC number doesn't work from outside Canada, probably because they want you to go through the embassies instead.  However, even if they prefer you to go through the embassies doesn't make it illegal to call them using 3-way calling.

Considering the urgency of your query, you should pay for the call as per PMM.

Leon is correct, three-way calling is not illegal!  It is, however, a service that you have to have with your phone provider.

If you have GMAIL (no matter where you are) you can make free phone calls from google voice to the US and Canada.

Give it a shot

Pr cards are taking up to 49 days at present - but bear in mind that is working days ... add on the weekends and it is more like 63 days!

No need to worry yet  Smiley

Hello,
This number to call from abroad seems to have changed! Does anyone know any other number to dial. I had to leave Canada because my PR card was taking very long and now I do not seem to be able to contact them.

Many thanks
