how to prove common law...no papers!!!

hello....

my boyfriend is from mexico and he is studying his phd in canada since january. he never mentioned me in his study permit because it was all too sudden.
I m from Argentina and just come to canada a week ago with a temporary visit VISA that will last for 6 months.

im planning on staying in canada for as long as his phd lasts.....3 years.

I heard that if we can prove that we are in common law union I could get an OPEN WORK PERMIT that would end when his study permit does. This is what we ant to do. The thing is, as in Mexico and Argentina common law union is not valid, we never had common bank accounts or joint receives of rent or anything that would prove that we have been in a mature relationship for the past year....which we had.

i was wondering if you could help to get around this issue....we can both signed together the STATUTORY OF COMMON LAW DECLARATION and get it signed by a lawyer, we can get letters from relatives....and we just opened a joint bank account yesterday... I need to know if this will work in order to prove our common law union.

Since I last wrote, we have managed to obtain the rental contract from our landlord in mexico. It says that in november 2007 we signed together the contract to cohabitate in that apartment from dec 07 until dec 08.

1- would this be enough to prove our common law? just send the lease?
2- the lease is in spanish. do i need to translate it? if so...can i do it or do i need a recognized organization to do it?

any advice!!!pleaseee!!!!!!

Probably not.  What status did he claim on his application for the study permit?  If he declared that he was single, then you have a problem.

yes, he did declared he was single. What happens is, in Mexico common law means nothing, we never thought it would be important here. He prepared all his paper work to come to Canada in less than a month and the truth is we never really looked into this matter.

So besides our mexican rent lease(oldest proof we have), we can present letters from family (he went to argentina to meet my family), photos, plane tickets we bought together when I went to meet his family (oct/08) the joint bank account we opened here (march/09) the joint rent lease we signed here (march/09 till march/10). But the only thing a year old is the rent lease from our apartment in Mexico.

So, what do you suggest we do? Present all these things and hope it works?
