Hi Everyone,

I am about a year away from applying with my significant other and for those that have already gone through the process - would there be any recommendations you have for how to prepare during this next year?

We've just recently been denied 2 visitor visas (my b/f's mexican, I'm canadian) so I am so afraid that when we do apply we will be denied again.

Thanks in advance Smiley

yes save all your communication to prove the relationship is genuine and not 1 to gain status into canada with the 2 failed attempt more proof is required pictures take them save them different ones include families and friends start researching your intent to resettle in canada if u plan to stay out of the country while the application is being processed

Hello I'm gathering information to proove our relationship is ligit.. we're married.. and are now focusing on phone bills between eachother.
But he lives in Egypt.. and he uses his mobile, or.. two mobiles.
Ddo I need to prove that the number I am calling from Canada is his phone?
If so.. how on earth do you do that in Egypt?

hey Spritz just include the phone numbers on the application. If he is still using both there is space on the application for a primary and for an alternate number

Use this time to gather evidence that your relationship is genuine. Document any form of communication you use. Don't just use phone cards - make sure you use some type of phone where you can get a record of your calls. When you visit each other, keep hotel and restaurant receipts, and take lots of photos.

Hey Everyone!

Thanks so much for your replies. =)  I'm a bit lost on how we can prove our relationship is genuine.  We live together so there really isn't any phone records (we both have pay as you go phones and text eachother while he is at work...but that's about it)  Our phone/internet provider won't let us have both of our names on the bill so that won't work either.

We do have a joint bank account that we opened last month.  Even his work will not let him change his life insurance to my name.  We went in and tried this last week and they said no it has to stay the same. (currently his beneficiary is his ex wife...) sounds a bit corrupt to me.

For anyone that lives with their significant other, how are you proving the relationship?  Are pictures and my joint bank account with him really enough?

(We also do have phone records and skype calls and text messages from when we were not living together, 11 months approximately.)

Thanks everyone Cheesy goodluck on your applications!

send all that you have start paying bills from the joint account so you have proof if you have a credit card add the other as an authorized user lots of pictures and letters from family and friends can help you application.

Can you get a print out of your messages? Showing a few from every week of your relationship would help.

He should talk to them again to change it, because obviously if a couple breaks up, the ex should no longer be the beneficiary.

You can get affidavits or letters from family, friends, the landlord, neighbours, your boss, religious leaders, etc., stating that they know you are a couple and believe the relationship is genuine.
If you buy anything for your home, try to show you two bought it together - on debit from your joint account, or on a joint credit card, for example.

That's good evidence.
