How to Obtain a Certified Criminal Record Check

Hey guys, I'm assuming i need to go throught this process:

And my question is - how to do it from outside of Canada - can I go to regular police station in my city, have my fingerprints taken and thats it? Or its little bit more complicated?

And one more thing - reason for request (and fee) - I might need it for work permit or for federal SW process, whatever comes first - can I put reason "immigration to Canada" in both cases?
