How To Keep The PR Valid ?

I got my PR on Oct 2005 (which is valid till Oct 2010 -- 5 years).
I have been working in US after getting my Candian PR.
I am planning to move to Canada permanently in Oct 2008.

So then, I have exactly 2 years left (in 5 year period - i.e, from 2008 to 2010), which maybe sufficient to keep my PR valid.
But my question is, if I have to apply for Canadian Citizenship,:

Do I need to stay for another 3 years after 2010 ?
                                    or
Can I apply for citizenship if I stay one more year -- 2011 (since I have already stayed for 2 years in last 5 years i.e Oct 2008 to Oct 2010) ?

1.  If you returned in Oct/2008 (note you cannot leave Canada for a day to maintain your PR status) you would be eligible to apply for citizenship in Oct/2011,

I was worried about this question since long...because if I can apply for Citizenship in Oct 2011, then it exceeds 5 years (for which the PR is valid -- 2005 to 2010)...so Oct 2011 becomes 6th year for me..

You renew your PR card about 6 months before it expires.
