Dear friends
My driving License was issued in Punjab (India) in the year 1992. It is being renewed in Haryana from the year 1997 to till date. So I requested (through agent) for the Letter of Authenticity to the Licensing Authority in Haryana (present residence). I got the following letter on Letter Pad.

“Returned in original with remarks that Driving License No. xxx, in the name of xxx son of xxx R/o xxx (city), Haryana (India) and authorized for driving of M/cycle, Scooter, Car, Jeep only and valid upto xxx (date) as per licensing Authority Record.”

Office staff refused to enter date of issue of license and place of issue, complete address or any thing else. For anything else I was advised to approach the issuing Licensing Authority in Punjab.

Is this letter along with Original License (Old copy  type giving details of issue and renewals) is sufficient for experience more than 24 months?
Should I approach the issuing Licensing Authority in Punjab which I feel will write validity upto 1997 (as per their record)?
Any one faced such situation and got better letter than this, may kindly give contents of letter so that I can take up the issue directly with Licensing Authority.

Hi DSR,
Have u got the letter of authenticity from Punjab. U have got it from the district transport office or Regional Transport office, plz reply

Hello Qorax,

I today got the letter of authentication from my regional transport authority. I had my license issued 27/08/2002 but that was only for Motor cycle with gear. Then i got Light Motor Vehicle added to my license on 26/05/2008. Now i have the letter issued and this is what it says.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Certified that driving License No. XXXXX dated 27/08/2002 has been issued in the name of Mr. XXXXX S/O Sh. XXXXX R/O XXXXX for MCWG(motor cycle with gear) and LMW(light motor vehicle), which is valid upto 26/08/2022. The Category of LMV has endorsed on dated 26/05/2008 with the above driving license. His date of birth as per our record is 19/05/1984.

The letter shows the date on which the letter itself is issued (11/06/2010).

I hope this letter will suffice the Ontario transport guys. My license is also in English so no need of translation.

I know QORAX would have already mentioned this but just floating this information again so that people are aware if this.

People going for driving test can give driving test with the following documents

- Original Passport
- COPR FORM/Landing FORM

These are the Identity documents and the PR should be able to sit for driving test.

Check out the link for acceptable documents

http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/HowToApply.aspx

Best of luck all

New Immigrant can apply for the commercial (class 4)driving license. Here is the mail i got from ICBC:
Thank you for your email of June 7, 2010.

Prior to applying for a commercial driver's licence, you must already hold a class 5 BC licence and you will need to submit your driving history from India.  The documentation must be an original document form your home jurisdiction and must include whether or not you have had any criminal code convictions within the last three years as well as any motor vehicle violations within the last two years. For more information on commercial licenses, please refer to the following link. Commercial LicenceIf you have further questions about driver licensing, please feel free to call ICBC Customer Contact at 1-800-950-1498. A representative is available to assist you by telephone between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Yours sincerely,

Today i went to Vehicle and licencing auhority to get the authentication letter with National DL and IDP.. They told you do not need a letter IDP will serve the purpose. Is that correct?

If they said so, I am sure they are correct.  I did not have a letter myself, only an international drivers license as well as my home country drivers license and in Alberta, that was enough to allow me to take the basic road test to get a GDL license.  They said I could not get a full license because they were missing the first date of issue so I could not prove how long I had been driving.  A GDL license in Alberta is like the G2 license in Ontario.  It will allow you to drive by yourself although it has a couple of restrictions like zero blood alcohol level, loss of license at half the demerit points of a normal license, not able to get a license for bus, truck or taxi etc.
