My wife will be landing on Jan 24 to Toronto. Me and the kids would follow in late March. Should she prepare the things that we would bring in March? Or does she prepare a list to follow, on things that we would bring in after our initial landing in March plus the things that we would bring in on March?

when your wife lands in Jan, be sure to show your goods to follow list for stamping so that when you arrive in late March, the goods will be customs free.

Thanks steaky. But should I will not be able to bring all of the things in March, how long do I have to bring the other goods in? And do I have to submit all the things that I did not take in with me?

Hi

Thanks steaky. But should I will not be able to bring all of the things in March, how long do I have to bring the other goods in? And do I have to submit all the things that I did not take in with me?

1.  You complete a goods to follow list B4 and B4A and present them when you 'land".  You include the vehicle on them.  See: http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/menu-eng.html
2.  You have to export the car from the US and you will need clear title as well as letter from the manufacturer that there are no recalls.  It has to be faxed to the US Office where you will be exporting the car 72 hours in advance.  Note they don't work weekends.  http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/export_docs/motor_vehicle.xml
3.  You will have to import the car through RIV  see: riv.ca

Make two lists 1. for goods brought during landing, and 2. Goods to follow (after landing). You do not have to bring all the things on list 2 at the same time. There is no set limit, that I know of, for completing the process (except for the timeline for importing a vehicle). Just be sure you show list 2 every time you bring more goods with you after you land. They will keep notes and stamp your form when you are finished moving.
