Hi,
My visa expired more than a year ago and I didn't bother to renew it cos I wasn't leaving to go anywhere.
But I have to leave the country next month and to re-enter I need a visa.
I have a valid work permit till Feb 2013 but I just lost my job a month ago.
What are my options now? Will CIC cancel my existing work permit if I submit an application for visa renewal?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ash85,

One of the requirements of getting a TRV as a worker is a Certificate of Employment or Letter from your Employer stating that you still work for them plus your valid Work Permit.

Your problem now is the Certificate of Employment.  Visa Office might refuse your TRV application.

I suggest you find a job and then apply for TRV.  But with the current processing times, you may reschedule your plans of getting out of the country.

You can stay in Canada until the expiration of your WP.  CIC will not cancel it.

Maybe some forumers have other recommendations too on your case.   Smiley
