Hello people,
I'm from Zambia and I'm waiting for an acceptance letter from Simon Fraser University for an undergrad engineering course at the moment. I applied for the Summer Semester(May 2012). My parents are paying for my course and they said they'd have the money in May. I don't think they have all the money right now but I need to apply for my visa as soon as possible to make sure I get it on time. It takes about 3 months. The fees are about $24000 for the whole year and I added another $10000 for living expenses and all that stuff. If I apply now would they need to show the whole sum of $34000 on their bank statements? Both my parents work but I have 3 brothers and ones in college so it wouldn't be easy.

Yes - you need to show a bank balance that covers first year tuition + $10K in living expenses when you apply for the student visa. Ideally the bank balance should also include a few extra thousand dollars to cover travel expenses.

How old should be this bank statement-couple months or it doesn't matter?

It should include the current state of the account.

Really? Oh my. Then I probably have to wait another semester don't I? Is there any other way to assure them that my parents would be able to pay in May?

Hi,

1. Get an educational loan.
