I am visiting for  about a month and going on a side trip for a week while I'm there.  Do u think a big suitcase vacuum packed and a big back pack is to much?

For you to get a good reply, people will need to know "where you will go and when you will arrive".

You don't have to carry much.  Shop as you go from one place to another!

If you want to drag all your stuff with you, bring it;
My choice would be, travel as light as possible (just 1 bag) but bring, or buy, warm clothes for Canada.
