Hi,

I would like to ask that when the government says that 2 years of post-secondary study is required in canada then how many months of full time study do they actually mean? is it 16 months or 24? since classes uaually go on for 8months in 12 months i.e. 1 year.

I am currently planning to do a simple masters in economics or related subject from canada. Any idea that is there any university/program that offers a 2 years masters?

Regards,

I bet they mean two school years.  When you look for colleges, you can ask them if they know.  They probably get other people in the same situation so they likely know the answer.  I think you also have to make sure that the college/university qualifies for CEC.  Check out http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/graduates.asp

Thanks for the update amigos!

Just one another thing. How do I know/find out that the particular university that I apply for qualifies for the CIC?

the answer for the first question as the member said above is 4 semesters each one at leats 4 months so the entire period of time is : 16 months. every one academice  year according to the immigration is 8 months (at least)

the second question you can find the universities that are eligible for the work permit in the following link :

According to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/graduates.asp#education, the educational requirement is
Quote
Two years of study – At least 16 months—or four semesters.
Make note of this or clause since a typical post secondary program semester runs for 15 weeks, which doesn't technically amount to 4 calendar months. There're few select programs like Registered or Practical Nursing whose semesters run for 18 weeks, but then again those types of programs usually last longer than 2 academic years anyway. To add to the confusion, the Instruction Guide at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/5609E.PDF, Page 9, has no mention of 4 semesters definition at all instead stating that
Quote
You must have studied in a program of study or training with a full-time duration of at least 16 months (i.e. two academic years of at least 8 months excluding scheduled breaks, such as summer holidays, in the calculation)
to satisfy the requirements. Any thoughts?
