I'm worried since my wife lives with her parents and has a part time job, only. =/  I know being a spousal app that there is no income limit, but it still worries me. Would a letter from her parents saying if we need any help they'd be willing to, help us out any?

I dont think that would matter its much harder for a female to sponsor her husband than vice versa. Depending on your cultural background and which embassy processes your visa you could be waiting for a looooooooooooong time

I dont believe the Bold portion is true. This is Canada it dosen't matter who is sponsoring who the same rules apply to men and women. If an application takes a long time then its based on some other issue and has nothing to do with the gender of the sponsor.

were applying through buffalo as same sex couple actually. and I haven't seen many of them on this site, but I wouldn't think it should be to different from a straight couple. I'd like to hope our time isn't drawn out because of that.

You probably think there is no racism or discrimination in Canada either

Your application will be assessed on its merits the same as everyone else's.

If you're worried about the income matter, you can have her parents write that letter of support, about providing assistance to you two.  I've seen students approved, attending school with a small income, so don't despair.  Also, remember to include proof of your own ability to hold a job, this can assist with any doubts in this area, it will show you are neither unwilling nor unable to support yourself.

What kind of proof could I submit?

No I dont see you being a same sex couple would have any bearing on how long it takes. You SHOULD be treated like any straight couple applying the same way.

I never said that however last I checked Women had all the same rights and freedoms as men. As a woman who works a full time job and sponsoring her husband I EXPECT to be treated in the same fashion as a man applying the same way.

Well, what we did was submit proof of my professional qualifications, so if you have a trade or professional certification, or possess a marketable skill, make sure you include proof of this.  It shows you are employable.  If you've already had a job offer, or begun job searching and received a favourable response from an employer (something along the lines of "come see me when you've got your PR) then include that too.  Don't be afraid to think outside the box on this one.  Show that you have thought about how you guys are going to make a living when you are together. looks as if I'm doomed on this. I have no profession, and haven't done job searching. My thought is that its months down the road and anything opened up right now will be taken by the time i'm approved.

I wouldn't think your doomed, I think if you can show that you have a strong support system in Canada that is willing to help support both of you until you guys get on your feet you should be ok, Maybe write out a budget, how would you both manage on 1 income until you received a job. What would you get help with, what would you be able to afford on your own (a more senior member can prolly help you out a bit more) But dont get down Smiley just think of other ways to show you wont rely on the Canadian Tax payers and that you have a plan to support yourselves Smiley

lol, I'm saving my money while I'm working here so I have money until I get a job there. So I won't be relying on Canadian tax payers at all Smiley but my wife does plan to come visit me until I get approved, providing it doesn't take a long amount of time, and we are relocating from where she currently lives, so it's both of us who need to find jobs. and it states in the checklist they must provide proof of returning to Canada if they live exclusively outside of Canada, as she is not currently nor will she be living exclusively outside of Canada I feel she does not need to provide proof in the application.

I agree, you're not doomed if you can show that you have a strong support system.  I'm sure the two of you have thought about how you're going to support yourselves, you probably just haven't documented it.

There are some basic needs your sponsor will be agreeing to seeing to: food, clothing, shelter, medical care not provided by public health services.  So, your in-laws will be providing a home, right?  As I said, let them write a letter stating so.  Your sponsor has in income, it may not be much, but she does have something.  What about you, will you be going to school, or anything like that?  Get it down on paper.   And document your savings too!

If she's just coming to visit, she doesn't need to provide proof of resettling, she hasn't left Canada long-term.
