how long private agency takes for background and security check

Hi seniors and members, last week I received mail from CHC New Delhi, that my case is in the hand of private agency, further I have nothing to do, except waiting reply from them, since its been more than 18 months and I gave interview on 2nd September 2010 this was the first reply message after sending more than 5 messages from my consultants.

How long this private agency will take for the Security and background check, I called all my previous employers and asked whether they received any call but the answer is no!!!

please advice me.
