How long does Embassy keep the passport? (London)

Hi, I have just sent my passport today to the London Embassy. I was just wondered how long the Embassy will keep the passport for. I know there are many variables but on average?

Recently a (spousal PR application) passport returned to Canada from London UK in 18 days.
