OMG We've been waiting for almost two years now. I haven't even been approved in principal just yet, so can't even work or travel outside of Canada. Not being able to work for two years dries me alive. (My boyfriend says it's fine to support both of us, but I just feel so terrible..)
Anyhow here is my time line:

03/2010: Submitted my document.
04/2010: CIC received my document.
06/2010: CIC started processing on my application.

01/2010: Asked to get the medical exam taken AGAIN.
01/2011: Received a Request letter asking me what I've been doing, where I've lived, where my parents were born, where they currently live and so on.
01/2012: Sent some pictures of us because we weren't able to submit anything before due to our laptop breakdown.
02/2012: Submitted the officially translated document about my parent's origin because CIC call centre told me the hold up is from my background check.
02/2012: STILL WAITING.

Well, all I need right at this moment is Approval in Principal and it seems to take FOREVER. Are they waiting for us to give up and go back or something? GOD it's annoying.
I'm on visitor's permit since last March (was working before on work permit) and I only requested it for a year, because I honestly didn't think that it would take longer than that. But now my visitor's permit is about to expire. Do I need to extend this again??? Ugh!!!

How was your case? Please share your story with us!!!

Try joining the Inland 2010 thread. You can find out about time lines there and see who submitted in 2010 and is still waiting like you are.

thats what happened if you mailed incomplete docs. and applied inland. many things will cause delays. i am on spousal sponsorship too and holding visitor status.
but i applied outland. be patient.. all you have to do is wait. i know your burden i have been unemployed for A year now since i have visitors permit and husbands pays for eveything. its a totall ego crashing for us not having our own money and buy things. hang in there and just be positive at least you know that CIC have your application
