Dear Forum Members,

I had opened up a related thread, but am not sure if I got all the details I wanted or not. May be I am too confused on what I am asking for Smiley.

Here is my situation. I am here in Canada on a WP (Internal company transfer from USA to Canada, no LMO as it is an internal transfer). I had been with this company for a long time and I am looking for a change. I started looking for Jobs (haven't started applying actually).

I know I am asking these questions without really testing waters myself. Thought someone knowledgeable and who might have had a 1st hand/similar experience will help me out:

(1) Does the Canadian employers show interest in my type of candidates (not having PR - PR still in process, need to process WP and possibly get an LMO also). I have some niche skills and I am hoping the prospective employer will be willing to do this.
(2) If I get a Job offer - I am assuming my future employer will have to file for LMO and WP. Can I keep working with my current employer while waiting for a decision on LMO and WP?
(3) What if the LMO/WP is rejected? Does it impact my current WP? I have a valid WP until March 2012

Seniors members - kindly spare a few minutes of your time and advice. Thanks in advance for your valuable time and help.

Some employer's may be willing to work with you but many won't. The whole LMO and TWP can take several months to complete so in order for them to wait, you would have to be an outstanding candidate

Yes, you could (unless the rules have changed, I did this back in 2007)

(3) What if the LMO/WP is rejected? Does it impact my current WP? I have a valid WP until March 2012

A negative LMO is the first stopping point but the LMO assesses you fit to the job you are applying for not the on you have. with a +ve LMO the WP is usually a formality. However I have no experience of TWP rejections following a +ve LMO

To be honest, I would wait until your PR comes through and the start looking. Having PR removes a lot of barriers to employment.

Couple of more questions :

- Does the employers in Canada normally apply for LMO in anticipation? What I mean to ask is - if they expect a niche skill to be not so easily available, will they advertise for the job and keep the LMO handy (just in case, I know it is wishful thinking, but checking on how the employers in Canada operate).

- My understanding is LMO is specific to the position and not to the person. Please correct me if my understanding is wrong. TIA

No - unfortunately this isn't something an employer would normally do.
