I'm a Mexican living in Mexico.

I started my Quebec immigration process since March/2010 and so far so good. I have the CSQ and sent it to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico and after a couple of months they sent me the requests for the medical exams and a letter called "carta de no antecedentes registrales" (meaning, a letter specifying I haven't committed any crimes in the country). However, in order to get that letter I have to get some military papers and those take a bit of time.

So due to this unforeseen circumstance I need a 2 month extension on my immigration process with the Canadian federal government, but I don't know which way to ask them that (email, the canadian embassy webpage, other way).

I would ask directly but in the embassy's webpage it specifies that the visa and immigration department won't answer phone calls (I've called, and indeed, they don't answer, I only get a recording telling me to check the webpage).

Could someone guide me through this part?

You send a case specific email to Mexico City.  See: https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/cicemail/intro-eng.aspx?mission=mexico

Hi

You send a case specific email to Mexico City.  See: https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/cicemail/intro-eng.aspx?mission=mexico

I also applied for Canada Immigration from Mexico City. I was using a representative/agent for my processing.
I had applied for extension similar to your case 3 times and I was given the same everytime.
PMM has already given the process to do that.

However, I wanted to share my experience with Mexico City consulate.
The immigration officers are pretty slow in responding to the queries.
For once, I got the extension letter from them on the last day of my given time period.
So you have to be extra patient. Even if you send them inquiry mails, they will reply after couple of weeks with a template response to "Be patient and they will get back soon"

The other thing is that give them proper reasons and supporting documents if required.
For me, my agent asked for a original request letter with my signature. She told me that is needed when we have to ask for extensions.

Do let us know how your extension request is attended to.
Good Luck.

I hope you already know that you have to give 2 police certificates. One is State police and other is federal police.
For State police, you need to contact local police station. For federal one, you have to submit the required documents in Mexico city office personally. They will give you the certificate in 15 days. If this day is the reason you want extention, please specify clearly the reason. I am sure they will understand and give you the extension.

All the best.

I already sent my state police certificate, the one I lack is the federal one. The main issue is that the federal certificate requirements are, among others, the "media cartilla" which I don't have and will take until mid-september to get, then I have to go to Mexico City to submit the documentation personally in the PGR building and wait two weeks the receive the certificate. I clearly explained all this in the message I sent them through the embassy webpage. I hope that they take notice and send me the extension confirmation shortly.

Thanks.

Oh. I did not knew about media cartilla.
Anyways, I am sure they will understand and take this into the consideration.
Just dont get too impatient if you dont get their reply soon.
All the best.

I still haven't heard any news regarding the time extension through the case specific enquiry, so last wednesday I sent them another letter asking for the extension (and explaining the reasons) through the general enquiry e-mail (supposedly the response time is lower, 3 to 7 business days, also I got an automated response confirming that the general enquiry was received).

Do they really take so much time in answering these enquiries? I only have until this friday as the original deadline and I'm getting pretty nervous.

note: nevermind, I just got an email confirming that the canadian embassy granted me the two month extension I asked for.
