You may hire people who are already here and want a second job. Other people come here with visitor's visas and look for jobs. This would save you money. You may also want to hire from Central or South America as the wait time is less. All you have to do is post ads in websites with free classifieds. If you need to, I can translate your adds into spanish.
You do not need an agency. Also if you do use an agency, make sure they don't charge the employees a fee since this is illegal.

Did you hear of any complaints regarding the POLO Office in Vancouver? Cheques mysteriously disappearing? 

I personally visited the office and handed my application for three candidates, together with the necessary Postal Money order cheque payments.  After one month of not hearing from their office, I followed up my application only to find out that they did not receive my cheques.  How can cheques mysteriously disappear in that small office?

Please advise!

Because Its such a mess,There is a Shoebox where all the checks are just stored and not secured.I personally could have gotten a couple and nobody would have noticed,Between Ruth who always away and Atty Bernie who is always out......

Hi LePrice, you have to provide each of your staff a copy of their employment contract and LMO. These are the only two documents from your side that they'll need. The other list of documents and forms they can download from the website of the Canadian Embassy in Manila: http://manila.gc.ca

There is a waiting time of 5 months after they've submitted their documents to the Embassy. They will have to pay $150 or P6,300 for the visa application and then P4,000 for the medical examination. All of these instructions are in the website. Tell them to make sure that their documents are complete because mistakes are costly. Incomplete applications are returned and P320 courier fee is charged every time.

I finally received my approved/positive LMO for three staff (NOC 6641) from Service Canada.  It took some time since I did the application myself and had to go through tough scrutiny from the Foreign Worker Specialist.  What is the process from this point?  I know I'll have to submit some documents to the POLO Office in Vancouver but what do my staff in the Philippines have to do?  Please advise.

I own a food franchise in one of the major mall in the Lower Mainland.  The head office is based in Calgary Alberta.  I would like to hire workers from the Philippines.

My question is, do I have to go through an employment agency or hire directly from the Philippines?  What are the costs involved?

I can answer this first hand because I met the Philippine Labour Office head for Western Canada When He went to Victoria,If you are hiring 5 employees or less you can hire them directly after passing through his office in Vancouver for Authentication,If you hire 6 or more you have to go through an agency otherwise even if they have tickets,visas etc They may be held at the Airport in Manila and not allowed to leave.Little background,My day job is working for one of the BC MLA s involved in Immigration policy in BC .To the Pinoys outside the Philippines,This does not apply to you,only those from the Philippines.Furthermore It is illegal for any Employment agency to charge you a placement fee.If you are charged,simply bring the receipt to employment standards when you get to BC and they will help you get it back.Secondly after working for 9 months,you are entitled to apply for permanent resident status under BC PNP,so you can bring your family into Canada.Finally If you are ever terminated,your employer cannot force you to leave Canada,You can find a new employer as long as your visa is still valid.You will love BC

What if the company has hired 5 from the agency and 1 direct, would they still be held at the airport?

I am going to add my 2 cents of advertising myself in here.

I am an Englishman here in Edmonton staying with my girlfriend and kids, and I want to stay here too like so many have said before me.

The good thing with me is that I have extensive experience in the industry having worked as a chef in a hotel kitchen back in England ever since leaving college, and on top of that my English skills are excellent.  I am English, after all.
