Hi! It's really a great help finding this forum. At least I have ideas on what to do with some immigration issues me and my friends and relatives are into. My aunt wants to hire a live-in caregiver for herself who is turning 66yrs old on May. She's neither infirm nor disabled. Her daughter who is a nurse just moved out to London, her husband is working, his son is working and studying as well. Question, Is she eligible to hire one  basically to have someone to accompany her and assist her? She's considered seniors right? If so, what are the things that HRSDC will check just in case she applied an LMO? They have their own house and she can provide a private furnished room to the caregiver. Can she hire a caregiver for herself?Meaning, she's the employer and she's the one who needs care. She's receiving pensions already. What is the income requirement as well..The caregiver that she wants to hire is already in Canada.

Hi:
Yes she would qualify as she is over the age of 65.
The requirements are:
over age 65
have there own furnished room
Yes she could hire her herself and pay her direct, she would need to deduct the taxes and submit them to the govt (u can do this thru online banking just as you would pay any bill)
The wage in ON is 9.25 per hour...1480$per month minus room and board of 369.42.. Out of pocket is about 1100$
AB is higher at 9.62 per hour.
It is very difficult to find a caregiver already in Canada who is willing to work for that min wage as local caregivers are in VERY high demand as not alot want to wait for someone to come from overseas (the wait time ranges 2-5 mons depending on the country of origin)
I am always looking as I hire local caregivers to fill the gap while the employer waits for the caregiver from overseas. We pay them a supplement to agree to these temp positions and to keep them due to the demand.
Pls let me know if u need any help.
