Here I am in Ottawa !

Hi everybody,

It has been a long time since I logged last time.
So here I am in Ottawa. I have been here since the 18th of july 2011.
Life is so quite here. I found nice people who helped me a lot : my landlord, the people from the community center ...

In fact, when I arrived I went to Montreal and spent 2 weeks time then I came here by the 8th of july. Now, I have my appartment, bought furniture, wrote my resume in the canadian style and begun to apply. I think that most of part jobs are already taken by students but I have some appoinment for interviews in August, next month. Hope that every thing will go right.

What to tell you !

You know, what I will tell you here is my own experience. So, do not take it as a general rule.

What I can advise is that some points are very important to start a new life here in where I am. I do not know if it is the same in Toronto for example. But, for sure, by the time you are waiting for your final decision or even before, try to improve your english :spoken and written. If you can speak the language fluently I beleive you will leave a very good impression when you meet people here and it will help you get social connections and may be find a job( networking).

If possible, begin your networking before you arrive to Canada. try to get some relations with people here, parents , freinds or others...
Try to look for some employment sites and look for information about the market here. and if you get the final decision begin to apply especially if you have already an address of s.o you know here in Canada and of course if that will be the place where you will settle.

AND BRING A LOT OF MONEY. It is true there are some social financial help, some benefits for the children, but still bring a good amount of money with you. You will feel better if you do not find a job quickly.

OK. anyway, for what we call OHIP cards, SIN cards... you can apply for these cards when you have an address either yours or another's

Anyway, life is beautiful here and I am sure that the key of happiness is finding a job and earning money no matter if it is in your field or not because when you get a first job it allows you to live your canadian life and build your history : references, job experience... then you can look for your ideal job , you can get trained, you can carry on studies. Whatever, you can do a lot of things.

Hope my few points will help you in your preparation for the move to Canada. You may already know about them ...
