Guys

I am working in NYC for the past 4 years on H1B. I have total 6 years IT exp with a Bachelor's degree. Dont have any managerial experience.


I am very good at what I do so I am very confident of finding a Job(I prefer Toronto).

What are the options I have to immigrate(get PR)?
Should I start looking for a job with an employer who will apply for PR  or Should I get the PR first and then look for employer?

Hoew does the process work and how long does it take?

Hey Jay,

 Someone on this forum mentioned regarding this -----its a catch 22 situation-- If u have a PR --getting a JOB Offer is easy and if u have a JOB Offer --getting a PR is easy.

Regarding yr case.....I believe u r an experienced techie.......but if u do not have Managerial experience then according to the present Federal skilled Worker eligibility rules .......your case is very weak.....and there are 99% chances to be rejected.
For FSW the waittime is still a mystery some believe it would be 1.5 -2 yrs from Buffalo.

Your best bet would be getting a job offer frm Canada.....that will make u eligible and speed up yr process very much.

So If I am looking for a Job, should I negotiate with my prospective employer to process the PR(like in the US the employer is the one who has to sponsor the H1B/Green Card), or does it work differently?

In either case I will have to get a Work Permit after the offer is made, and then come in to canada and start working to apply for the PR. Is this correct?

Learn French to a good level and try to apply for the Quebec Skilled Immigration Category. Currently, for Canada Immigration - The Quebec Category is the easiest since you donot need a job offer from an employer and also the point system for qualifying is not that difficult. But you need a decent command of French to qualify for that.

Most other Provincial Nominee Programs need employer specific job offer (increasingly Alberta AINP too is tilting towards employer specific PNP nomonations) and so the Quebec route might be the only route open to you if you are not an IT Manager.

For FSW, your employer role is limited to getting a AEO, yes with this you will secure vital 15 points but final discrition will be of assessment officer.
