Hi there,

I am a canadian citizen through naturalization and my partner is applying for sponsorship through me in April 2010 hoping that we can go to Vancouver in August 2010.
We both live together in Northern Ireland.
My boyfriend and I have been together since June 2008 and living together since December 2008 in my house.

We will only have his bills redirected from April 2009 to mine and opened a joint bank account in April this year too.

By April 2010(when we are going to apply for sponsorship) we will have the following:



Joint bank account for a year

Bills in both our names addressed to the same house

Bank bills in separate names addressed to same house

Other post in his name addressed to my house

Statuary declaration of common law Union

Pay slips showing we both earn over 20K each

Letters from friends, family, professionals etc to say we are common law partners

Photographs of our relationship from June 2008

Letter from Minister in Vancouver saying we can stay with him and his family until we find our rented accommodation in Vancouver

Job interview for me set up in Vancouver for when I arrive

We are also trying to get each other put on our life insurance as beneficiaries


I just really would like to know if you think that this would be enough to get the permanent residence he requires to come with me next August/September?

That is great evidence.. as it is a common law union your relationship will be scrutinized heavily.  Provide as much as you can to document the length of your relationship since the beginning and then establish the one year common law union through the items listed above. Having overkill of evidence is better than not having enough and being denied.

My only concern would be meeting the financial part you state you both have 20 k but your having a job interview when you arrive maybe i missed something

All that information you decalred seems to be that of your situation in ireland that doesnt provide proof of stability in canada ,again if im reading it correctly.

As she is applying from abroad it is hard to prove stability in Canada.. The best way is to explain your intentions, she will have a job offer, and she can provide letters from a family member if they were to stay there at the beginning or give a rental agreement..
You don't need to "meet" a financial part of a spousal sponsorship only if you have dependants that have dependants of their own.  If she doesnt have the option to get an Option C Printout she can supply them with a letter of employment and pay stubs etc.

As Bonchuk says, you do not need to meet income requirements if you are sponsoring your spouse/ common-law partner. I would think a job interview and having proof of a place to stay in Canada should be fine in terms of showing proof to re-establish yourself in Canada but I applied while in Canada. To me that seems fine.

Yes thats right, I am not living in Canada now, but live in Ireland and we are both in good jobs.
We intend ot leave Ireland and settle in Canada around August 2010.
I will be setting up some interviews for myself and we will have a letter from a family friend to say we can stay with them in Vancouver when we arrive until we get our own place.

I spoke briefing to a Canadian lawyer and he thinks I have plenty of good evidence so fingers crossed we will ge tthe sponsorship next year xx
