I've been in Canada for the past 10 years as a student (applying for my student permit year after year). I know for a fact that i would rather stay here then going back to Hong Kong (my birth place). As the end of high-school is approaching i would like to farther my education here in Canada and someday be a Canadian Citizen. At this time i would like to know HOW to obtain 'permanent resident status' and HOW to obtian a permanent resident card because i plan to go to college (to become a nurse) and work to pay my school fees. Family support is very limited therefore applying for just a student permit again is just not enough... AND the tuition for a international student is three times as much as a Canadian. So i ask ANYONE that is out there that has the knowledge please help me out.

Hi,

you can get the information on following linls

The categories u can apply for..
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

The Federal Skill Worker Category you might want to consider..
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

You might check the eligibility to qualify for FSW... ( as u've studied more than a year in canada, u shud be qualified for PR under FSW Category)
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp

Thanks,

V.

When you are in high school, it's very unlikely that you'll have enough points to apply as a skilled worker.  If you have family in Canada, it's possible that they can sponsor you under family stream if they live in AB, MB or SK but I think there's actually only one of those provinces that allows 18 yo. applicants, the others want them older and I think you'd have to have a bit more than high school.  You'll have to look it up.  Failing that, do you have a student work permit?  You can try to get a skilled job such as shift manager at McDonalds and see if you can apply for PNP through that.  It might delay your nursing studies by a year or so but you'd have PR at the end of it and you could do your nursing school on local study fees instead of international.
