help please - re documents needing translation

Application is almost complete.

I am Canadian citizen sponsoring my husband from Cuba.

Do I need to translate his medical document? I have original in Spanish.
Do I need to translate his birth certificate? I have original in Spanish.
Do I need to translate his police check?  I have original in Spanish?

Must the translation be done by an AITO translator?
Must the tranlations be "notarized"?

4.  Yes, and the translator notarizes the translation.

Just wanted to make sure that you have read the Document Checklist specific for Cuba since they tell you which documents that need to be translated. There are also specific requirements for Cuba that are different than other countries (e.g. you must send the original PR application form plus 2 additional photocopies etc.) If you haven't please make sure that you read the country specific instructions for Cuba which you can find here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#region

I have read and re-read the documents checklist and it is ambiguous and confusing:

So I guess that I do not need to do anything with the medical except submit it as I received it.

But I must translate the police check and the birth certificate and submit translations along with the originals.

am I clear?

Yep.

Seems strange to me that a DMP would issue the medical in Spanish but then again, I don't know anything about those guys in Cuba.

Ok, now I'm confused.

Is the medical report that you are talking about  form IMM1017 - Medical Report Section A? Because that form is in English (or French) and as far as I'm aware, those are the only languages it is available in. Do you mean the form itself is actually in Spanish? Or is what they've written in Spanish? It really only asks for your name, address, DOB, etc. which would be the same in either language really so I don't understand what you mean by saying that the medical report is in Spanish.

Sorry for the confusion.  The medical report arrived and it was in English.  I am now in the process of having the birth certificate and the police check translated and everything else is finished.

If I have the documents by Wednesday, I will be sending via xpresspost to Mississauga.

Just my two cents but I would NOT use Xpresspost.  They "say" two days for delivery but twice now it has taken 4 days for me.  I would use Fedex or UPS.  I've personally had the best success with them.

Actually the checklist is quite clear. My husband is also Cuban and the requirements for applications out of Cuba have specific requirements and it's crucial you follow them. As ariell mentioned there are a few forms for which you need to send in along with 2 additional copies and for all Cuban nationals you MUST send all original documents along with a certified translation. If you send copies your application will be returned.

When my husband got his Visa they handed him back all the original documents that were included in our applications, as well as all of our pictures and additional information (phone bills, trip itineraries, letters, etc). Our CAIPS notes indicated that they made copies for the file.

I did get it done including all the translations and did send all original documents!

I sent it via UPS on Friday October 2 and it arrived at CPC-M on Monday October 5 at 10:08 am.

Now I hold my breath until I hear something!
