hi everyone!
i am starting this thread for those who are bound for Ontario. given that the OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Program) can only be applied by permanent residents after 3 months of their stay in Canada, did you get a private insurance to cover for that first 3 months in Canada? if yes, what insurance did you get and how much was the premium for just 3 months? did you get it in your country of origin or you got an insurance in Canada already?
i'll be bringing my two-year old son with us this July and i don't want to risk his health and just in case something happens that would need some medical attention i would want to be prepared by getting a health insurance while we are still not covered by the OHIP. although it is an additional expense, i am sure it would be worth it rather than having to pay for expensive medical services from my own pocket.
thanks a lot and all your inputs would be highly appreciated!

If you wish to take temporary medical insurance, there are lot of insurance companies in Canada. You can check their websites.
I have personal experience with pucherinsurance from whom my relatives and my family used to take temporary medical insurances for our out country travels and also 3 months insurance when we landed first.

You can get a free quote from them at this site. If you need a low premium, you should limit the coverage for a lesser amount like $ 10,000 to 20 or 25000/- Also if you show pre existing condition and on going  treatment, the premium will go high. However check few websites and choose the best.
