Hi, I just wanted to ask what medical or health insurance is covered for first time immigrants? And will you be immediately be granted health insurance upon initial landing in Canada?
Any info or advise would be much appreciated.
thanks.

There is no special health insurance for first time immigrants. The regular health insurance covers visits to the doctor and specialists as well as hospital stay and surgeries if you need them. It does not cover ambulance service, medication or dental work.
You can get instant coverage in many provinces if you are arriving from a foreign country but in some you still have to wait for 3 months before you are covered. If you want instant coverage, do not settle in ON, Quebec or BC.

Hi,
3 month waiting period is required before you can get a provincial coverage (some exceptions may apply). Before that, it is recommended to use services of private insurance companies which will be active upon initial lending.
Good luck.

I also want to add that New Brunswick is required to buy private medical insurance for the first 3 months as well.
