Frenz,

I applied for my SIN card last week, but due to lack of time I couldnt apply for my Health cards.

Do you think I could get it done by mail or wait until I move for good ?

Regards,
Kummy

It's good that you have NOT applied for health card.
New immigrants can apply for health card only when they plan to live in. In Ontario there is waiting period of 3 months & in Quebec (I think) its one week. So it depends where you have landed. Once you plan to move to Canada for good (as you said), you should apply for health card... it won't matter if you apply on say day 1 or day 5 after coming back, you will get it on day you become eligible for this.
(for example, if you com back on 1st Jan and there is waiting period of 3 months - you will get it on 31st march - irrespective if you apply on 2nd Jan or 10 Feb or 20th March).

Thanks Canada Dream ! Appreciate your help.

If I land on June-1,2012 for good, I become eligible by Aug-31, 2012, correct? What will I do for those 3 months when there is no Health Insurance?

Pls. advice.

Yes you would be eligible on Aug 31st, if you are coming to Ontario.

I bought travel insurance from Canadian insurance company for me, my wife & daughter for 3 months.
It is not mandatory to buy but to be on safe side...

Second, you must have address proof, when you go for filing health card. That is either a lease or bank statement. So, you may need to wait because of these. But won't matter as would get health card only on 31st Aug.

good luck...
