Yes, absolutely it might mess up your application. They might think you are coming to join your relative so you would have to show even stronger ties to your homeland.

How do all that work with possibility for graduates to find a job in Canada and get a work permit for two years, and during that time (of working) apply for permanent immigrant status from within Canada?
When you apply for a student visa- "you
must prove that you would return back home", and at the same time
according to immigration rules you HAVE RIGHTS to stay in Canada to work after graduation?!?! And then apply for PR status... Does CIC understand this itsself?
Do they really think this possibility exists only for those graduates who "absolutely suddenly changed their minds during convocation"? :) What is the worth of the promises "to go back home" if
after graduation you a have a LEGAL opportunity to stay in Canada?
