Hi guys, although I have posted this question in another thread, hope someone out here will be able to answer me!  Thx in advance!!

I applied outland and currently living in Hong Kong.  I got a letter requesting me (the sponsor) to provide a Letter of Release to show my intention to move back to Canada.  Have you guys heard of this?  I'm not sure if this Letter of Release is specific to Hong Kong or other countries have a similar thing?  It said to look at my local tax department for more information.

Turns out, here's what it is:  I have to tell my employer at least 1 month before my departure date that I will be leaving the country for immigration (eg. resigning my job).  Then my employer will withhold my last month's salary and submit some forms to the tax department.  Then I have to go to the tax dept. to clear all my outstanding taxes.  Then the tax department will issue a Letter of Release.  I will give this Letter of Release to my employer, then they will "release" my last month's salary to me.

Here comes my problem..  I don't know whether my husband's application will be approved or not.  Even if yes, when he will be approved?  Then how would I know my expected departure date?!  Then how can I tell my employer when I will be leaving?  Or resign now and risk losing my job if in the end, my husband is not approved??!  Even if i resign now, I can't tell my employer my expected date of departure (it might be 3, 6, 9 months from now?).  And I may not be leaving yet, then I shouldn't be clearing my outstanding taxes right now.  Then how the tax dept can give me a Letter of Release??

I'm really confused why VO asks for this right now (although I couldn't find any deadlines to submit this).  There is no phone number I can call and I have tried to go to the consulate to ask in person but the officer at the door already stopped me and said I cannot ask any questions, I must write or email to them instead.  But they will only reply if my case has exceeded their normal processing time (of 18 months!!).  My case has only been processing for 2 months.  So basically, I'm stuck with no one to ask!!!

Can anyone help me??

That's remind me of those days waiting for my wife's immigration application in Hong Kong office.  I can only contact them by email or writing.

i don't know how HK works but the Abu-dhabi office (for the Gulf region) is asking the sponsors proof of resignation letter and residence visa cancellation before they issue the PR to the applicant; from what i read they ask this when all is ready and they want to issue the PR; all people who shared this and showed that proof got their PR after...i never heard of sponsor being asked to go back to Ca without the applicant getting the PR at the end

Yes, it's really "unfriendly"....  I've emailed/written to them about getting my address wrong on eCAS and I have still not received my sponsorship approval letter in the mail.  But it's been over 1.5months since they said they sent the letter but the address is still showing up wrong...  and no reply whatsoever on my email/letter!

Hm... but it seems very early for them to ask this..  my husband's application has only been processing here in HK for 1.5 months and recently have been asked to submit police check report.  (The normal processing time for HK as stated on their website is 18 months).  So they are asking me to resign right now and just sit and wait jobless for another 17 months?  Unless suddenly they are super fast and will approve us in 2-3 months?!  I have my doubts...  Roll Eyes

yeah it seems early but some other people got their pr much sooner than expected, so u never know; i would try to contact them somehow, see why they want this letter at this stage...maybe with a little luck someone will clear things up; good luck!

Thanks.  The only way they allow me to contact them is thru email or writing a letter.  I have sent them a registered mail last week, hopefully someone will read it and reply it before they decide it's not provided and reject my application!  It's really worrisome and makes me think whether I should really just quit my job and wait...

Usually they will made their reply by phone.

Does anyone know if ordering caips notes will give me a better idea on the status of the application? Like if I can tell it's near the final stages with no particular problems, then perhaps I should quit my job...
