I have loans &  credit cards too, what I'm doing and what my brother in law did, (he's already in Toronto since 2005) is right now only paying the minimum, save as much as possible, then I open a checking account with RBC Bank, this is the bank account I'll show when they ask me for proof of funds, then when I cross the border I'll open another bank account with the same bank, after that I'll transfer the money from Canada to US bank account and pay the bills online, check in UK for Canadian Banks, internet is great!

Peace!
