GST/HST credit question for sponsoring a spouse

Just a quick question...may sound stupid..

GEtting GST/HST credit is a form of financial assistance ??

does it affect spousal sponsorship if the sponsor is not working at the time of application
?

does it show up on option C print ?

Your tax credits do not affect eligibility to sponsor.

If you are not working at the time of the application, you need to show how you plan to fulfill your sponsor obligations.  I don't know that it shows on your Option C, but if the amount you filed is low, ensure you provide proof of being able to meet their basic needs.

No, receiving GST/HST does not count as receiving social assistance.
No, it will not affect the sponsor portion if they do not work but just in case they ask for proof of support, be ready with documents to prove that. Such as a letter from an in-law if you are living with them saying that can care for you both until you're on your own feet, etc.

I am fairly confident that the option C will only show calculations and results from your 2010 tax return and 2009 one if you don't have the 2010 one yet and ordered that one instead. Unless they are taking EI right now, I don't think it would show their unemployment for this year until next years tax return. However, seniors/other members please feel free to correct me if that doesn't seem right.

Absolutely not considered social assistance... Neither is child tax credits, universal child care benefits, subsidized daycare/geared to income housing, unemployment insurance/mat leave or any working parental benefits payments..

Not sure what does and doesn't show up on option C, but members have received any/all of the above and been approved as sponsors without issue

If you arent working you should probably show proof that you are actively seeking employment and that you have had a history of being employed, which would hopefully demonstrate that your situation is temporary... Letters from family who might be willing to help you financially in-between jobs might also help

I am showing enough bank balance in my canadian account from my previous earning in USA..I am a physician and  I am preparing for my licensing exam for Ontario currently and so not working to give effective time for study..( I am putting this explanation in separate sheet of paper)

I am also putting last 2 years Tax return from USA ( as i was working there) to show that I was making enough money as a physician...and I am off my work temporarily to prepare for licensing exam in Ontario.

Please suggest me if this is a good idea..Will appreciate it...

and by the way I am not a full fledged physician yet.. I was doing my residency  (post graduation).. i need to clear 3 exams here to start residency and then i can be a licensed physician in Ontario..

Not a negative as long as you can demonstrate intent and commitment to return to Canada, as you plan to
