Hi all,
I got my passport back today with immigration VISA on it (skilled worker immigration).  My legal status has been single on the applications. However I got married on July 1, 2010 to a US citizen (haven't updated CIC yet) and my spouse (we live in the USA) doesn't intend to move/immigrate to Canada (I won't need to sponsor her).  On the paper work that came with the passport today it says I have to let them know if my legal status has changed. So I will fax a proof of marriage etc. I am wondering if the CIC will require me to submit immigration paper for my spouse as well?

please let me know what you think...

thanks

Congrats for PR and your marriage..

Well we don't know how IO will reflect bcoz you are upadating CIC after 3 months of your marriage.. it should have done earlier

well good luck and inform them at this time atleast bcoz your correct status should reflect in CIC system..

It is a tough on to call as they might tell you that you did not inform them of your status during the application and this might make them withdraw the Visa.I would suggest you update them if you choose to do so through the useof an immigration Lawyer. The paper work always says if it is discovered that one has not provided adequate information, the least expected might happen.Since you are not sponsoring your partner, why not inform them after you must have received your PR card(it is just an opinion).God will help you with the decision making process.

if u sent ur passport, for stamping, after u got married and did not tell them about it, ur PR visa will be revoked.

Always you can find a good excuse. don't give up. however, since you are not going to sponsor your spouse it is better to let them know when you get your PR. if it is the case. Better to consult with a immigration lawyer first.

@ Abebneh....you suppose to inform them before ...now you can do only if you can go for court marriage with current date ...means after your VISA and then inform to immigration.....but in this case you have to do marriage again in court .....but still you can ask from senior

Once you inform them, do you know that they are going to start the process almost from the begining again !

They will cancel your visa right away, re open your file add your wife to the file, start their investigations to make sure that the marrage is genuine not fraud "just to get the canadian citizenship", make their background check on your wife, and wait untill they receive the results of her background check, ask her to submit police clearance from each country she has lived in after the age of 18....etc.

After all, if they are satisfied with the above information, they will send her a medical request, and she will have to pass it. However, before the medicals, if anything went wrong in the results of the above information, or she could not submit police clearance from any country she has lived in, both of you not only her, will be refused addmission to canada, as a result, your application will be refused and closed.

So i can say for you "Good Job" i really do not know who has adviced you to make such a decision "getting married 3 months before the visa issuance" thinking that they are gonna add her to your application and give her the visa just like that !

Couldn't you wait until you become a permanent resident to marry her and sponser her ! at least you could have guaranteed your permanent residence if anything went wrong in her application "background check....etc".

Specially in your case, because the marrage took place that late, they will check this matter in a very deep base to make sure that the marrage is genuine.

Even if your wife does not want to immigrate to canada, they will not exclude her from sending the police clearance and that stuff, and if they found her inadmissible to canada for any reason, you will be inadmissible too because of the fact that she is your wife.
