while i'm on here, is there any reason why it's better to submit the actual passport vs. a copy? I'm thinking of sending copies for myself and my partner as we may take a cross border trip sometime in the next few weeks...

Thats pretty awesome! Jut a quick question, were you applying for CEC via undergrad and 1 yr+ experience? Or 2yr+ work experience?

And when did CPP Ottawa receive your medicals? 2 weeks after it was done?

i never had any updates when I checked my status at CIC other than "In Process" though maybe that will update in a couple days. I noticed after i received my AOR it took maybe a few days for the status change on there.

I was applying under 2+ years work experience and i never checked the tracking on my meds, but had them done about a week after my medical request. So, presumably there were there within two weeks of that date.

CONGRATS   Cheesy

Just a quick comment, if you could paste here the details, i think it would help a lot of us.

Specifically, if you could identify the stream you applied under - graduate or foreign worker, the NOC, any special steps you took etc. that would be extremely helpful and guide us all through the process.

Regards

Does it say that you can send in photocopies??? I sent in my original passport and the response time was really quick (2 weeks exact). Also if you're based in Canada, they don't stamp your passport with a visa anyway... so I guess if it says that you can send in copies, then go ahead? You won't be able to do your landing until they mail you your confirmation of permanent residence papers anyway..

If you are from a visa-exempt country, the VO may decide that a photocopy of your passport is sufficient - which in my mind is MUCH more preferred than sending the actual passport.  I can't think of any reason not to take that option if available - the stress people experience while their passports are in the mail (what if it gets lost?) is easy to read on this forum.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2011/ob348a.asp

I don't know what kind of instructions you were offered - but according to the bulletin, a photocopy of the biodata page is not enough - but it doesn't say what IS enough - like it doesn't say, "photocopy all pages in the passport" - so hopefully  you have better instructions.

And - congrats!!!

Yes I'm a US passport holder so I guess I fall under the visa exempt situation and can send copies.  Instructions stated to send copies of all pages so I will go ahead and do that instead of the actual passport.
