Hello and greetings to you all.

I work for a large company and they bought over a plant in Orillia, Ontario.  The plant manager there gave me a job offer (intra company transfer) and I am also a member of management with specialized knowledge (since we bought over this plant in Orillia ontario).  Human resources told me to show up at the border and ask for a work permit with the cover letter they wrote and the job offer.  This cover letter states that I have specialized knowledge and am a management member and they need me there in October.

I read on the CIC website that members of Nafta are not required to have an LMO if they are professionals in certain categories.  I am an Engineer.  So is it true that I don't need an LMO because I am a US citizen who under the nafta agreement is a professional (engineer).  Also it says intra company transferees are not required to get an LMO...

Do you guys think this will actually work?  Or are they just trying to avoid giving me an LMO because it is more work on their part?  The plant manager there is an american citizen as well and he got an 'expat' package which involved an LMO.  She said since I applied for Canadian PR and the 'expat' is more expensive for the company they prefer I go this route.

Do you guys feell this will be a waste of a trip.  Also, should I fly or drive?  And which border crossings will be able to give a work permit?

I was planning on showing up with the job offer, letter from human resources stating I worked at my current company for 5 years and have specialized knowledge and a printout of the CIC website where it says that Nafta members do not need LMO's for certain categories. I also will bring a copy of my university diploma...is the copy okay or do I need the real one?  Also, do I need anything else besides my passport when I fly into pearson or drive through Buffalo?

Also I have a pending Permanent Residency application.  I applied in February so I was going to bring a copy of this too.

Thanks so much

Where ever you cross, do it during a weekday 9-5. Yes, bring your credentials, all that is applicable and also regular requirements like, ties to us, proof of funds and more important all your employment records (offer, confirmation, salary raises, promotions etc)

have everything handy in a file, and be ready to show it.

Since you are a US citizen, the process should be smooth. Don't worry, just make sure you answer the border control officer properly, after all he is also a human doing his/her job.

Good Luck!
