So he and I aren't sure how to come about this. He wants to live here in Canada with me, which I very so much want to happen. He's planning on coming up here to visit me, but we don't know how he's able to permanently stay. We only know a little bit about visas (like which types there are), but that's about it. We don't know if he's able to apply for a visa here in Canada, or if he must remain in the United States, where he's from...... Any suggestions?

Start reading at the CIC website under applying for permanent residence, family class.  It's tricky.  You cannot sponsor your fiance unless you've been living together for one year and apply as common law, or unless you can prove that there are reasons that you cannot be together for one year.  Your job does not count as a reason.

My spouse and I decided that getting married would be our best option, so we got married this summer and I applied under the family class as his spouse.

Suggest you get married.  Then you can sponsor him, as long as you qualify.
