My husband and I just got his US (New York State) license exchanged for an Ontario license yesterday. He did have to surrender his U.S. license. We had to show them his passport, his current U.S. license and we also had an original abstract that we got from the DMV in his town. They checked it over but they said they couldn't accept it because the date listed for when he got his first license on the abstract said "Class Change" and not Issued date or something similar. We were still able to get his Ontario license though because his current New York license was issued in 2005, so it showed more than enough driving experience to do a straight exchange without having to go through the graduated licensing program in Ontario. Phew. After we got home I looked at the abstract again and it took me a few moments to figure out why it said class change... right beside it they also stated ACTIVITY... New Class was D and old was PERMIT... I wish I had checked it over better at the time but I thought the girl must have known what she was talking about. Anyways, it all worked out in the end. I would say get an original abstract to be safe because they will ask for it, but as a back up if your current license shows enough experience I think that can help you as well.

SaugaBoss, check out this link:

http://www.drivetest.ca/en/license/ExchangeReciprocal.aspx

I think you might have to get an original... it also needs to be dated within six months of when you are trying to get your license exchanged.

While I don't agree with the graduated licensing introduced in BC, I don't know much about Ontario's.
From what anecdotal evidence I've heard about NJ drivers, perhaps it's best that you all have to go back to driver's ed! (that's a joke!!!) Cheesy

As for "worst customer service," I'd argue against that strongly.  Filipino, Indian and US customer service is FAR, FAR worse!

only $15 but i expedited the shipping so total $45. if ur from NJ they dont need an abstract so i would call the state you live in and ask that u need a document that states when u got your license and your current status.
