My family and I are all british and we put in our migration paperwork some 8 months ago.  My wife is a fully qualified hairstylist/barber with 20 years experiance, I am just leaving the Royal Air Force Police after serving 22 years.  I was a Counter Intelligence/Security Specialist.  I have looked on some sites and it would appear that if we had firm job offers we may get our application processed faster; I have noted from CIC that the average waiting time for UK is between 40 - 50 months.
My question is two fold:  Will canadian employers risk offering employment to a uk citizen prior to their arrival?
How do we get job offers?  I have look on WorkoPolis/Monster with not much luck.
P.S.  We are considering settling in the Niagera region of Ontario.  Any assistance would be appriciated

Employers might be willing to sponsor you for a work permit to speed up application processing, but not without meeting you first.  I'm sure they wouldn't even offer a job to another Canadian whom they hadn't met, right?

It's hard to get a firm job offer without being in-country.  Maybe a trip to scout around is in order?

The best advice I could give you would be to come here for a visit, networking etc. Thaiguy is right, you won't be offered a job if the employer has never seen you !

Do you know where you'll be living or are you flexible ? You could look for more locals ads if you have an idea about your location...

Don't waste Your time. Think: Would You invite somebody who You don't know in Your's bussines?
Big thing is that You are native English speakers. Why You try to obtain work visa? You should aply for permanent resident in skilled worker category. Wisit: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp
            Best wishes from Serbia.Good luck!

You can't be employed in Canada if you don't have a proper visa. In order to get the Permanent Residence, you have to apply in one of the category, as a skilled worker for example. If you don't have the skills or not enough experience etc. there isn't much to do.
