I started looking today after getting my SIN yesterday, and to be honest, am wondering if that might be a good idea anyway, to just get to know a few more people in the first couple of months here.
Would be something completely different for me, but just add to the changes in my life right now.
Oh and my husband absolutely loves this idea, but then again, I think its just because he wants free Timmy's!!

Maybe Timmies should use the following slogan for immigrants.
We know you're down, but we can pick you up, come work for us and sell our cups!
Tim Hortons - getting YOU to serve our community. [start the music] Always Tim Horton's

Executive or Administrative/HR. Have a degree and masters (not that it would matter much to a canadian employer) And close to 7 years experience. I suspect i will have to start at the lowest level somewhere.

Depending on where you're located, it may be more important to do the networking than it is to pound the pavement. Don't be too picky about your first job here -- it could be that employers don't want to deal with foreign reference checks, too. What is your background? I know that a lot of Canada has some discrimination against people that don't adequately communicate in the local language (be it English or French). If you have a foreign accent, perhaps working to be able to turn that on and off like a switch would also help to make those good first impressions. You may also consider applying to work for the government -- both federal and provincial governments seem to be easier to get into in some areas than the private sector. Try: http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/content_pieces-eng.do?cid=1&lang=eng for some other ideas also. Also, having undergraduate and graduate degrees means that a lot of employers will be uninterested in hiring you because you're overqualified for the position and they don't think you'll stay there long. The exception to this is a larger organisation that uses some sort of evaluation matrix and can overlook an element like that (or even count it as a plus).

I think having the masters degree and the experience would make a difference. It's still early days, dont be too disheartened. Keep trying and something will turn up. My advice would be not to start applying for tim horton like jobs unless you absolutely have to. Stick to the field you have experience in. Good luck!!

Ok let me give you advice over here, because I had lived in Canada before . what exactly you want is education, canadian one. so you need to go to college or university. then you ll have the job you want, other than that you ll stuck in tim horton, or same jobs.
What I did my wife and I , one go to university the other work in bad job, then when she finished she got good job, then I start.
this is the best solution I think at this moment .

Try temp agencies. Lots of employers hire temp to perm. This way they can evaluate the employee first, make sure not only their skills but personality fits in with the company.
I have many friends, Canadians and immigrants that have got jobs through the temp to perm route. It also lets you evaluate the job too, before committing yourself.

I don't think you HAVE to have something from canada. Certain jobs require you to have canadian certificates yes such as teaching for example but not every job requires you to have canadian certificates when you already have a degree and masters like honeybird.
Sometimes its just being in the right place at the right time...
