Applying for Canadian passport

I have come to Canada on PR card in March 2005. My wife and 4 year old child are already candian passport holders. Now I have heard that PR card is for 5 years and you can apply for canadian passport after 3 years living in Canada. Now my question is this, I have two charges (domestic and DUI case) last year in canada which I have been pleaded guilty. With these charges on my record can I apply for candian passport or they will deport me after 5 years when my PR card ends?
