from unmarried to common law

hi.
what should i do if i declared unmarried when i was issued work permit but since canada recognizes common law relationship i would like to change my status to common law.is that possible?

first of all im not married.i still have my surname but my kids have their father's surname.i jus came to know about common law when i was here in canada.
