Hello mrdynamo,
I have cleared step 1, step 2 CK. Because of visa issue wasn't able to write CS. Hoping to write my CS exam once in canada. Residency i will definitely try, but was wondering is there anything that can be done in canada...hopefully without going through all the pain of all the canadian exams. While trying for residency( which is getting very very competitive everyday so uncertain) is there anything I can do meanwhile?  Maybe observership/ volunteer work at any hospital?

Observership may be hard to find unless you know someone.  Volunteer is easier to find, you can look at volunteer toronto website.  You can apply to any hospital for volunteer.  Also, send your document for assessment to the College of Physicians of Saskatchewan.  Since you have MPH from the US, you may be qualified to work as a medical health officer in public health.

In terms of what you can do meanwhile.  You can complete the Advanced Cardiac Life Support course.  You can also complete the CPR and first aid instructor course which you may use to work as an instructor.  However, since you have a MPH already from the US, you should really look into working as a research assistant or a health promoter.   This are the kind of jobs you should be looking for.  Look on workopolis and charity village for jobs.  But of course, most jobs are found through networks, the people you know

Hello,
It also depends on who you know, if your degree is from a reputable school, if you have good references in the US, if you have the communication and interpersonal skills to do well in an interview, if you have experience in the US.

You should keep your eye on the websites for the public health department, in toronto area, toronto public health, durham public health, etc.  You should also keep your eye on charityvillage.com for jobs as a health promoter or community development etc.
