I probably set a record in this forum for the longest timeline or at least close to it. Here is the breakdown. The application was filed on October 27 2008. Apparently, the following month the Accra embassy had contacted my wife without any of us knowing that. This was on November 28 2008 .They had sent a letter to my wife requesting for additional documents and pictures about our marriage but my wife did not receive that letter which was possibly because of the unreliable postal system. And, that's just one of three letters from the embassy she did not get. Anyway, by the time I found out about the embassy's request with the assistance of my MP and sent the required documents and pictures 7 months had elapsed.
Getting the embassy to comply with simple directives at times is futile and an exercise in frustration. I have sent them email twice trying to get them to use my wife's email address all to no avail. After all these fiasco, 10 months later the interview was scheduled for April 29 2010 but she was in the end denied a visa.
Then came the toughest stretch of the journey with its moments of emotional turmoil. At certain times I often wondered if our marriage will even survive this period. It didn't break us so perhaps that will make our bond stronger.
I filed for an appeal in May 2010. It took almost a year for the hearing to take place. After winning the appeal in March 2011, she had to wait another 7 months before the visa was finally issued on October 11 2011. It was a long difficult journey but in the end the desired result was achieved.
I feel mostly indifferent about her visa. The long wait and the agonising experience of going through the appeal process mostly ruined the excitement for me. Though, seeing my wife for the first time at the airport is the only excitement I see in the immediate horizon.

Very brave on your part to stick it through the whole messy affair. I commend you for not losing focus and sticking through the end. It's unfortunate that so many lives and relationships have to suffer because of the weakness of the immigration system in treating spousal PR cases efficiently and timely.
On the other hand, you can treat this success as victory over the odds and hopefully you will make it part of your relation history to show that your determination can help you achieve any goal you set for yourselves.
Congratulations and good going with your new life together in Canada.

Kedeisha, dakonej, theachrissy thank you for your comments. Dogged determination has been part of my makeup. It has served me well in other aspects of my life. It came in handy in this situation.

I'm glad to hear you finally succeeded in getting the visa. I'm dealing with Accra as well - it's not exactly an easy office to go through.

3 years of waiting? WOW! Congrats on getting the visa. U should celebrate or something. I would probably have gone crazy from the waiting and pressure/anxiety.
My husband just got his visa, our application was processed in less than 5 months (thankfully) and it was just horrible waiting. Cant imagine waiting 3 years, especially if apart from Ur partner.

Well I think we (sponsorship of my parents) may have broken the record. We started the process in October of 2007 and finally, 2 weeks ago, we sent off the passports to the Embassy in Paris and anxiously awaiting their return.

That is really crappy inflex. I'm glad it's finally over with, but it's really not fair they put you and your wife through all that crap. Well I think we (sponsorship of my parents) may have broken the record. We started the process in October of 2007 and finally, 2 weeks ago, we sent off the passports to the Embassy in Paris and anxiously awaiting their return.
Parent sponsorship can't be compared to spousal - they purposely move spousal faster than parent applications. Glad you got approved finally though.

Awor is correct, parent and spousal sponsorship are not given the same level of priority,

I'm so happy for you. I'm sorry you had to go through such a long arduous process, but you will be together soon and I'm sure it will take some of the sting away. I hope you are reunited soon and best of luck in your life together in Canada

Growing up in Vancouver Canada of course it's very common to see Canadian Citizens with foreign spouses. But until now, going through these steps myself (and hoping my situation doesn't end up like yours) I've realized how much these couples go through to be together.
I believe the love is stronger for couples who go through something like this together. Living with uncertainty is so tough when it comes to matters of the heart.
I'm happy for you two....Your journey now, believe it or not, has just begun.
