Hi,

If you are a FSW when providing address for sending PR (at landing) can you specify a Quebec address?
I will be stay in Ontario but probably will change location a couple of times until I get the PR.
I have family in Quebec, that's why I would like to send the PRs there.

Thank you.

I have a sister in Quebec also but will not use her address for the PR. Will stay in Toronto until we get our PR. Quebec has a different immigration system and by doing that, it might backfire on your PR application. However, I read in tis forum that once you get your PR, you ca settle anywhere in Canada including Quebec. Just my two cents.

@ virgiemaricel Thanks for the answer.

But I do not plan on staying in Quebec, I am not even going to go to Quebec at all.
I plan on staying on Ottawa for a couple of days and then go back to US to finish my packing, etc.
So I want to send my PR to family in Quebec.

Thanks.

There was a guy I remember who had applied under FSW but while waiting for it had managed to get a temporary work permit and was working in Quebec when he got his PR visa.  He asked immigration if he could land in Quebec, land outside Quebec but give his Quebec address or if he had to leave Quebec alltogether and they said that he must land outside Quebec and give an address outside Quebec to get his PR card but they did not mind that he would stay in Quebec at least long enough to finish his job contract.

When you land, if you give an address of relatives, they will often ask if you plan to stay there when the PR card arrives.  If not, they will often not accept the address.  Instead, they will advise you to skip the address for the time being but update it with immigration once you are in Canada to stay and have an address of your own.  You can still try it.  If they say no, you can either wait until you move to Canada or you can arrange an address through UPS and update CIC to send it there.

@  jamesbond: Are we immigrants allowed to go outside Canada without our PR cards yet?

If you're going back to US without your PR card, you might have a problem returning to Canada. I've read in the embassy website that we need the PR card when going outside Canada.

You are absolutely allowed to go outside Canada.  Canada does not want to hold you prisoner until your PR card arrives which may take months sometimes if something goes wrong.  You can ask about this as you land but they will tell you that you can get in on your landing papers and passport if you are coming by car from the US or if you are visa exempt.  If you are not visa exempt and have to fly, you will need a travel document from the embassy but it is more for the airline than immigration.  Travel documents can be obtained in some cases same day, in some cases takes 10 days.  You will have to ask your embassy what their processing times are.
