Hi all,

I am an international student in Canada since Jan 2010. My study permit is valid untill mid 2013.  Also I have applied for PR under Federal skilled worker immigration recently as I was meeting the requirements to apply from inside canada. I am expecting my file number will be issued to me within 2 months.

Now I am just wondering If I can apply for open work permit untill any decision is made on my Federal Skilled Immigration application?
Currently I am having Valid study permit and Off-campus work permit.

Please don't get confused with Post graduatio work permit (It will take two more years to complete my studies).

I have read somewhere that I can apply for work permit untill decision is made on my Federal Skilled worker Immi application.

Thanks,
Laclin

Yes you can Smiley

PR has no connections with WP applications , just update CIC if you get your OWP

You should have tried applying under the Canadian Experience Class, rather than FSW. It is much much faster. In 10 months, you get your PR.

Depends, three different scenarios
1) Completed any degree in Canada e.g. Masters, then you can apply for Post study work permit.
or
2) Have valid job offer with LMO then your apply will help you to apply for restrictive work permit
or
3) if not 1 or 2 then simple answer is no, as under FSW-1 no one can get a work permit if there case is in process, this facility is only available to people applying under PNP.

the question is if a current student needs a job offer yo obtain a valid open work permit; i have heard people say that they have received open work permits without job offers (not under pgwp category) - anyone care to shed more light?
